About the Micah Movement
Our MISSION is to provide online resources and information for individuals and churches regarding public morals and social issues.
Our PURPOSE is to encourage fellow Christ Followers to be a people of integrity
and to be on guard that we
"act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God."
The Micah Movement was originally developed under the leadership of a godly woman named Mary Louise Stancell in 2013 during her tenure as the Director of Public Morals and Social Issues Awareness with the NC East District of the Wesleyan Church. When Mary Louise retired in 2016, her position was absorbed into another ministry; the website was taken down; and "The Micah Movement" officially ceased to exist. Unofficially, however, the ministry continued on social media, and it soon became clear that God was not finished with the Micah Movement. Mary Louise continues to seek justice and works with the Micah Movement as the Lord permits (mainly thorugh social media at this time).
When the domain came up for renewal in February 2017, ministry partner and fellow abolitionist, Laura L. Zielke (http://laurazielke.com), offered to continue the mission of the Micah Movement by providing online resources and accurate information regarding social justice issues. She has been involved with the Micah Movement since its inception and has helped with website design, social media, and graphic design services. With the blessing of the NC East District, she purchased the Micah Movement domain names and updated the site to include current information. The Micah Movement will continue to follow the Biblical guidelines set forth in Micah 6:8: to seek justice, promote mercy and walk humbly with the LORD in our local communities, state, nation, and all over the world.
About the New Logo:
Our new logo reflects the heart of the Micah Movement. The Hebrew word in the background is hesed (sometimes spelled chesed) which is the word used most often throughout the Old Testament to express the LORD'S lovingkindness, mercy, and steadfast love.
"Let him who boasts boast in this,
that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD
who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these things I delight, declares the LORD."
The first word in our name, Micah, was chosen, because our organization was founded on this verse:
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
The second word in our name, Movement, was chosen to be a constant reminder of our purpose to rally Christ Followers who are working to promote justice and mercy in our communities and throughout the world while maintaining an attitude of humility before the LORD. Won't you join us?!
